A 16-year-old boy was detained on Wednesday after he allegedly opened fire at a police team during an anti-snatching check in northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri, officials said.

The incident occurred near TLM Hospital when the police personnel signalled two men, coming from the Pili Mitti Park side on a motorcycle without a number plate, to stop.

“Instead, the duo attempted a sharp U-turn to escape, and the pillion rider fired at Head Constable Rohit, who narrowly escaped being hit,” police said, adding that the bike lost balance and the duo fell on the road.

While one of them managed to flee the spot, the juvenile who allegedly fired at the police party was caught.

A country-made pistol with live and empty cartridges were seized from him, along with the motorcycle, which was later found to be stolen from Narela.

Further investigation is underway, and teams are also probing the juvenile’s past involvement in other cases, the police said.
